Dependent

The applicable scope of "Dependent" is as follows.

A spouse or child who is dependent on a person residing in Japan with a certain status of residence(Professor, Artist, Religious Activities, Journalist, Highly Skilled Professional(HSP) , Business Manager, Legal / Accounting Services, Medical Scervices, Researcher, Instructor, Engineer / Specialist in Humanities / International Service(ESI), Intra-company Transferee, Nursing Care, Entertainer, Skilled Labor / Specified Skilled Worker(ⅱ), Cultural Activities, Student)

A "spouse" must be formally married and is not allowed in common-law marriage.
Also, children are not limited to minors.

Scope of activities for "Dependent" is "daily activities performed as a dependent spouse or child".
Therefore, they are not allowed to work.
However, if they receive permission for activities outside the qualification, they can work up to 28 hours per week.

• The status of residence of "Dependent" does not allow you to work, so if you apply, you need to be able to live on the income of their person who bears living expenses.
  For example, in order for a family member of a "Student" status of residence to enter the country for a "Dependent", both cannot work, so it is a requirement that they have the property to live outside of work.
• The period of stay for "Dependent" is until the period of stay of their person who bears living expenses.
• If a person with a "Dependent" status of residence who finds a job in Japan has graduated from compulsory education and high school in Japan, it is possible to change to a "Long-Term Resident（LTR）" or "Designated Activities".
  If the person has graduated from elementary school, junior high school and high school in Japan, it is possible to change to "Long-Term Resident（LTR）".
  If the person has graduated from junior high school and high school in Japan, it is possible to change to "Designated Activities". (If the person has not graduate from junior high school in Japan but only high school, he / she must pass the Japanese Language Proficiency Test N2 or higher.)
  ※ In either case, the person must have entered Japan by the age of 17.
