If you want to continue job hunting in Japan after graduating from a Japanese university, you will need to change your status of residence.
The status of residence for foreigners studying at a Japanese university is "Student".
If you are employed by a Japanese company etc. after graduation, you will need to change your status of residence to one that corresponds to the type of work you will be doing.
So what should you do if you are unable to find a job in Japan while you are a student?
If you continue job hunting without graduating from university, you will be granted a status of residence of "Student".
However, if you graduate from university and begin job hunting, your status of residence of "Student" will not be recognized.
In such cases, you will need to change to a status of residence of "Designated Activities".
With this status of residence of "Designated Activities", the period of stay is six months, but if you are unable to find a job during that time, you are allowed to extend it once, meaning you can continue job hunting for up to one year after graduation.
In addition, with this status of residence of "Designated Activities", just like with a status of residence of "Student", you are permitted to engage in activities outside of your status of residence up to 28 hours per week.
