For those who are undecided whether to apply for "Permanent Resident" or "Naturalization"

Sometimes people come to us for advice, asking, "Is it better to apply for Permanent Resident or Naturalization?"
Whether to apply for Permanent Resident or Naturalization should be decided based on what the applicant wants to do in the future.
The biggest difference between "Permanent Resident" and "Naturalization" is the applicant's nationality after the application is approved.
In the case of "Permanent Resident," your nationality will remain the same as at the time of application even after permission is granted, but in the case of "Naturalization," you will be given Japanese nationality.
Once you become a Japanese citizen, depending on the country, you may be required to apply for a visa to visit it, even if it is your home country.
If you are determined to continue living in Japan and not return to your home country, we recommend that you apply for Naturalization.
On the other hand, if you are thinking of returning to your home country in the future or have not yet decided what you want to do in the future, we recommend that you apply for Permanent Resident.
