Important Points When Applying for an Extension of Period of Stay
When a foreign national holding a work-authorized status of residence, such as “Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Services,” applies for an extension of the period of stay, the Immigration Services Agency will carefully review the actual nature of the applicant’s work.
Not only the nature of the work but also the volume of work will be reviewed. Specifically, there must be a sufficient volume of qualifying work to justify full-time employment.
Furthermore, if the applicant’s work activities have changed since the previous application was approved, it is necessary to explain specifically how those activities have changed.
If, due to a change of employer, transfer, or other circumstances, the applicant asks a different Certified Administrative Procedures Legal Specialist to handle the application, it is important to provide accurate information regarding the previous application, as well as the specific nature and volume of the work performed to date.
Failure to properly explain such information may, in the worst case, result in the application being regarded as containing false information and being denied. Applicants should therefore take particular care to ensure that all information provided in the application is accurate and consistent.
