However, the applicant must be in Japan in person when collecting their residence card.
This is because you will need to present your old residence card and passport when collecting your new residence card.
Normally, once the review is complete, you will need to collect your new residence card within two weeks.
Therefore, if your application is approved while you are back in your home country, you will need to re-enter Japan and collect your new residence card by the deadline.
