Who is eligible for the status of residence of "Spouse or Child of Japanese National"?

One of the status of residence is "Spouse or Child of Japanese National."
As the word "Child" is included, it applies not only to spouses of Japanese nationals but also to children.
There are two examples for children:

1. Children who have been specially adopted by Japanese parents
2. Those born to Japanese parents

Of these, a "person born to a Japanese national" refers to a biological child of a Japanese national (a legitimate child or a child born out of wedlock who has been acknowledged), and does not include adopted children.
When a biological child of a Japanese national is born in Japan and a birth notification is submitted, he or she can acquire Japanese nationality and become a Japanese national.
However, if a child is born overseas and a notification of retention of nationality has not been submitted, the child will lose Japanese nationality, and if the child resides in Japan with a Japanese parent, he or she will be given the residence status of "spouse or child of a Japanese national."
If the child is under 18 years of age and has an address in Japan, they can acquire Japanese nationality by notifying the Minister of Justice.
