Points to Note Regarding the Specified Residence Card
Starting June 14, 2026, the operation of the "Specified Residence Card" (Tokutei Zairyu Card) has commenced. This new card integrates the conventional residence card and the My Number Card into a single card.
Previously, foreign residents were required to carry both cards separately. By switching to the Specified Residence Card, you will only need to carry one. Furthermore, convenience has significantly improved; for instance, you will no longer need to go through the previously mandatory procedure of extending your My Number Card's validity period when renewing your period of stay.
However, if you wish to request a Specified Residence Card when renewing your period of stay or changing your status of residence, please note the following points.
Specifically, the procedure for receiving the new card requires a two-step process:
- Submission of the PIN Request Form
After receiving the notification of application approval, the applicant must personally visit the Immigration Bureau counter to submit a "PIN Setting Request Form" (Ansho-bango Settei Iraisho). Please note that you cannot receive the Specified Residence Card on this day. - Card Collection
The applicant must visit the Immigration Bureau counter again on a later date to collect the Specified Residence Card.
Please note that, as before, the administrative scrivener who handled the application on behalf of the applicant is also eligible to receive the card.
