Sole Proprietors Can Also Employ Foreign Nationals with “Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Services” Status of Residence

Most foreign nationals with the status of residence of “Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Services” work for companies. However, sole proprietors can also employ foreign nationals under this status of residence.
The work to be performed must fall within the scope of the status of residence, such as professional or intellectual work involving planning, management, analysis, or design that requires specialized knowledge or an academic background.
However, for a sole proprietor to employ a foreign national under this status of residence, certain requirements must be met. In addition to having filed documents such as a Notification of Commencement of Business and an Application for Approval of Blue Return for Income Tax, the business must have sufficient sales revenue to pay the employee’s salary and must provide adequate workspace for the employee at its office.
It is also important that the business has a sufficient volume of work to employ the foreign national on a full-time basis.
If these requirements are met, a sole proprietor, as well as a company, can employ a foreign national with the status of residence of “Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Services.”
