Payment Methods for Online Residence Application Fees Changed in October 2026
For residence procedures applied for online on or after October 1, 2026, the method of paying fees upon approval has changed.
Instead of paying with revenue stamps as before, fees are now paid by convenience store payment or bank payment. Internet banking can also be used for bank payments.
Once the application has been reviewed, an email notifying the applicant of the completion of the examination will be sent from the Online Residence Application System. After that, a separate email containing payment instructions will be sent by the designated payment service provider.
No paper payment notice will be issued. Applicants must therefore follow the instructions in the email and pay the required fee by convenience store payment or bank payment.
Please note that credit card and QR code payments are not accepted.
In addition to the fee for the residence procedure itself, a separate payment processing fee must be paid to the payment service provider.
For applications for a change of status of residence or an extension of the period of stay, the payment processing fee is ¥330 or ¥550, depending on the amount of the applicable fee. For re-entry permits and Certificates of Authorized Employment, the payment processing fee is ¥220.
The email containing payment instructions will be sent from an email address ending in “@service-dgft.com”, which is used by the designated payment service provider.
The Immigration Services Agency of Japan has warned that any email from another address requesting payment of fees for residence procedures may be fraudulent. It is therefore important to check the sender’s email address carefully before making any payment.
For further details, please refer to the Immigration Services Agency of Japan website.
