”What is “Simple Naturalization”?

The requirements for naturalization are stipulated in the Nationality Act, but the examination is extremely strict.
However, if certain requirements are met, the requirements for naturalization will be relaxed.
This is called "Simple Naturalization."
The specific requirements and mitigation conditions are as follows.

Address requirements and Ability requirementsA foreigner who is the spouse of a Japanese citizen and has been domiciled in Japan for more than 1 year after 3 years have passed since the date of marriage.
A foreigner who is the spouse of a Japanese citizen and has had a domicile or residence in Japan for three years or more, and who currently has a domicile in Japan.
Address requirements, Ability requirements and Livelihood requirementsChildren of Japanese citizens (excluding adopted children) who have an address in Japan
An adopted child of a Japanese citizen who has continued to have a domicile in Japan for one year or more and who was a minor under the laws of the home country at the time of the adoption.
Those who have lost their Japanese nationality (excluding those who have lost their Japanese nationality after becoming naturalized in Japan) and have an address in Japan
A person who was born in Japan, does not have nationality from the time of birth, and has continued to have a domicile in Japan for three years or more since then.


As mentioned above, although it is called as "Simple Naturalization", it does not mean that naturalization is that easy.
