Important Considerations for Naturalization Applications

When applying for Japanese naturalization, you are required to submit a personal history (Resume/Curriculum Vitae).
The personal history consists of two parts: "Part 1" and "Part 2." In "Part 1," you must list your entire history from birth to the present. This includes every address where you have lived, both within Japan and overseas.
If you have resided in Japan for a long period and moved frequently, you may find it difficult to remember every specific move-in date and address. In such cases, you can request a "Deletion of Resident Record" (Juminhyo no Jyo-hyo) to clarify your previous addresses and move-in dates.
However, addresses from before July 8, 2012, are not listed in the Basic Resident Register. Therefore, they will not appear on a "Deletion of Resident Record." In this instance, you must file a disclosure request for your "Original Record of Foreign Resident Registration" (Gaikokujin Toroku Genpyo).
This disclosure request can be made either by mail or in person at the counter. Please be aware that it typically takes about one month for the records to be disclosed. In contrast, a "Deletion of Resident Record" can be obtained on the same day.
Therefore, if you need to request your "Original Record of Foreign Resident Registration," it is essential to plan ahead and allow plenty of time for the process.
