Specifically, these updates clarify the requirements for "interpersonal duties involving linguistic skills, such as translation and interpretation."
The updated guidelines clearly state that a foreign national must possess Japanese language proficiency equivalent to CEFR B2 to qualify for this status of residence when performing these duties.
It is important to note that if the individual does not meet this specific language proficiency level, their application for a Certificate of Eligibility (COE) or change of status will likely be denied.
In some hotel settings, a foreign employee may primarily use a language other than their native or official language (for example, a non-native English speaker providing English-speaking guest services). In such cases, the employee must also demonstrate language proficiency equivalent to CEFR B2 in that specific language.
