What to do first if an inheritance occurs
When an inheritance occurs, there are many things that must be done, but the first thing that must be done is to identify the heirs.
If the heirs are not determined, the estate division agreement will be invalid and inheritance registration cannot be carried out.
This is because the division of an estate requires the consent of all heirs.
To determine the heirs, carry out the following steps.
- Collect all family register and removal from family register copies from the deceased's birth to death.
- Determine the heirs from the collected family register and removal from family register copies.
- Next, determine the order of inheritance.
A certified copy of the deceased's family register can be obtained from the city, ward, town or village office of the deceased's registered domicile.
If the deceased's registered domicile has changed, a copy will need to be obtained from the city, ward, town or village office of each of those registered domiciles.
If you have experienced an inheritance but are unsure of what to do, we recommend consulting a Certified Administrative Procedures Legal Specialist.
A Certified Administrative Procedures Legal Specialist can also prepare an inheritance division agreement and handle the necessary work of determining the heirs.
