Age restrictions for status of residence of "Student"
The status of residence of "Student" is granted for those attending schools in Japan, not just university.
However, please note that, in principle, there are age restrictions for those attending high school, junior high school, or elementary school with a status of residence of "Student", as detailed below.
The status of residence of "Student" is also recognized when attending a Japanese university, graduate school, vocational school, high school, junior high school or elementary school.
However, if you go to junior high school or elementary school, please note that there are the following requirements.
- Must be 20 years old or younger if attending high school
- Must be 17 years old or younger if attending junior high school
- Must be 14 years old or younger if attending elementary school
In addition, if you attend high school with a status of residence of "Student" , you are not permitted to attend a part-time high school, and there is an additional condition that you must "have received Japanese language education or education in the Japanese language at an educational institution for at least one year."
