Important points to note when changing jobs as a foreigner working in Japan
If a foreigner working in Japan with a work visa quits their employer, they must notify the Immigration Services Agency within 14 days of quitting.
It is not much of a problem if the foreign national changes jobs to another company immediately after quitting, but care is needed if it has been some time since they left and are unable to find a new job.
In particular, if a foreigner with a work visa performs part-time work that is not permitted by that work visa, they will be engaging in activities outside the scope of their status of residence.
Of course, if the foreigner has a valid reason, their status of residence will not be revoked, but in order to do so, they must register with Hello Work after leaving their company and leave evidence that they are searching for a new job.
If the foreigner has been job-hunting on his/her own without registering with Hello Work and has been doing so for a long period of time, this may not be recognized as a legitimate reason.
When a foreigner leaves a company, he or she must notify the organization to which he or she belongs and register with Hello Work.
