For foreigners who have stayed in Japan on a “Dependent” and wish to continue working in Japan after graduating from a Japanese high school
I believe that there are many foreigners who have stayed in Japan on a “Dependent” basis and wish to continue working in Japan after graduating from high school in Japan.
For foreigners to work in Japan, it is necessary to obtain a Working Visa.
However, there is no Working Visa that foreigners who wish to find a job in Japan immediately after graduating from high school can obtain.
Therefore, until now, I think most people have been working part-time while staying as a “Dependent”.
However, if certain requirements are met, it is possible to acquire the status of residence of "Long-Term Resident" or "Designated Activities".
If you obtain the status of residence of "Long-Term Resident" or "Designated Activities", you can work in Japan.
Acquirable status of residence | Requirement | Remarks |
Long-Term Resident | After graduating from elementary school in Japan, those who have graduated from junior high school and high school in Japan (including plans to graduate) and have a job offer.
Designated Activities | Those who have entered a Japanese school from junior high school, graduated from a Japanese high school (including plans to graduate), and have a job offer.
Those who have transferred to a Japanese high school, graduated (including plans to graduate), and have a job offer | Must have passed Japanese proficiency N2 |
