When a foreigner who was married to a Japanese person divorces and marries another Japanese person
In order for a foreigner to marry a Japanese national and obtain the status of residence of "Spouse or Child of Japanese National", there is a requirement that the marriage must be legally established in both Japan and the foreigner's home country.
Therefore, even when remarrying, it is necessary that the marriage has been legally established in both countries.
However, in some countries, it is difficult to obtain a divorce, and it is not possible to obtain a certificate of a legally valid marriage in that country.
In such cases, you may be able to obtain the status of residence of "Spouse or Child of Japanese National" by proving the actual state of marriage from other facts.
If you have any of the above, please feel free to contact our office.
